The International Learning Exchange Programme

The International Learning Exchange Programme (ILEP) is a new multiannual programme announced by Welsh Government in 2021. ILEP projects will run from 2022 to 2026 and during this time it is hoped some 15,000 participants from Wales will go on overseas mobility exchanges with 10,000 participants coming to learn, study or work in Wales. ILEP will be available for young people, learners and staff at all levels in the following sectors:

  • Schools;
  • Youth Work;
  • Further Education, Vocational Education and Training, including Adult Education;
  • Higher Education.

Purpose and objectives of this funding call

It is recognised that not all organisations working with young people, learners and staff have the same experience of and capacity for maximising the opportunities offered by international exchanges.

This call aims to assist organisations to successfully engage with ILEP in order that the benefits of international exchange activities are promoted and made available across all education providers, and across all of Wales.

Sector organising bodies will be expected to raise awareness of the ILEP programme amongst organisations in their relevant sectors and to promote the value of incoming and outgoing international exchange activities.

ILEP is inviting applications from those with suitable prior experience in international mobility actions to support capacity building across three sectors: Youth; Schools; and Further Education and Vocational Education and Training, including adult education. The call has three objectives:

  • To raise awareness and profile of the ILEP Programme and the potential value of incoming and outgoing mobility actions across a range of sectors;
  • To provide support and advice on the administrative and logistical aspects of managing and implementing international exchange activities amongst those organisations;
  • To provide advice and support to organisations who wish to apply to ILEP to operate international exchange activities.

Applicants are reminded that a key purpose of ILEP is to support a widening of participation in international exchange activities, particularly to those from currently under-represented and disadvantaged backgrounds.

Interested parties are requested to complete an application form and submit to ILEPEnquiries@cardiff.ac.uk by 3pm on 10th December 2021. The application form should be completed in line with the guidance in the Pilot Call for Pilot Call for Sector Organising Bodies – Call Document.
